Avoid these common interviewing mistakes!

It’s inevitable that job seekers will have to attend interviews to secure a new role these days. Whilst interviews come in all shapes and sizes, make sure you avoid these common mistakes.

Make sure you prepare. It doesn’t make much to research the job and the organisation you’re interviewing with. If you can’t answer any questions about the job or the company in the interview, it’ll look like you’re not interested.

Are you on time? Turning up late to an interview, even if it is out of your control, won’t start things well for you. Plan your journey well and leave plenty of time to get there, even if delays occur. If you do find yourself running later, call the organisation to let them know when you’ll arrive. And if your interview is online, log on join the call at the start time (not early!), and consider testing your tech beforehand.

How much information? It’s vital that you’re careful about how much information you give. You should avoid being critical of a previous or current employer in an interview setting, and honestly, the interviewer isn’t going to want to hear your full life story! Answer the questions given clearly and to the point.

Have you got what it takes to work in a warehouse?

Working in a warehouse can be challenging at times. It’s a fast paced, highly pressured environment, which demands a wide range of skills. So might you be suited to working in a warehouse?

Adaptability is key. Warehouse work means you’ll likely find yourself in a variety of different environments, both hot and cold, inside and outside. Good warehouse workers are prepared to adapt to changing environments and demands.

Don’t forget the customer. Warehouse work might seem behind the scenes, away from the customer, but there’s times where you’ll need to be customer facing, representing your company. Make sure you’re ready to offer great customer service where needed.

Do you have problem solving skills? Whilst warehouse work can seem fairly consistent, with consumers becoming ever more demanding you may find new challenges when it comes to delivering a service. Good problem-solving skills and imitative are a must.

Think training. Whilst most companies offer training, good warehouse workers ensure their training is up to date at all times, so make sure you’re compliant, because it’s your responsibility to be safe too.

What are the top skills employers are looking for?

When you’re job searching, it’s vital you demonstrate your skill sets, and how they match with the needs of your potential new employer. Whilst this can be varied, there are certain core skillsets every employer is seeking – here’s the skill sets you should be promoting and focussing on when job searching.

Leadership. You might not think that leadership skills are relevant to you if your role doesn’t include line management, but this isn’t the case. Leadership on projects and problem solving, demonstrating the ability to lead where required, is a must.

Problem Solving. Identifying problems is fine, but you need to demonstrate the skills to be able to solve problems and come up with solutions.

Personal skills. You need to be an effective communicator, able to build working relationships with colleagues and customers as required. Good communication is a must!

Motivation. Of course people are motivated to work according to salary, but employers want to see you’re motivated by other factors too, such as career progression and personal development.

How to secure that promotion

We all want to do well at work and for most a promotion is the first step to new development and better financial security. But how can employees better their chances for promotion?

Think strategy. A promotion doesn’t necessarily mean working “harder” or longer hours. Employees should more consider how to work smarter to ensure they are working to their full efficiency, and in turn, think about how a company can work efficiently.

Who’s your inspiration? If you’re stuck on where to start, think about those who have been promoted before you, and how they made their mark.

Just ask! Ask managers for feedback on your work and for suggestions on how you can improve. If you don’t ask, how else are you supposed to know how to improve?

Don’t forget the team! Whilst working to improve yourself and your way of working, apply what you learn to working in your team – companies work better when there’s good collaboration!

What Makes a Good Haulage Company?

A good haulage company for any business is vital. Consumer demand is on the rise and having a haulage company you can trust in is incredibly important. So what should you look for when sourcing a new haulage company?

Flexibility is key. More and more companies are having to work in a more agile way than ever before, and it’s crucial that your haulage provider can quickly adapt to the needs of your business and your customers.

Do they have the experience? Have they worked with organisations similar to yours before? In addition, do they hold of the legal paperwork required for the sort of haulage you are seeking? Do your research and thoroughly investigate any potential haulage partners to ensure they can meet your needs.

Is it cost effective? It may seem obvious but it’s worth interrogating the numbers to make sure a haulage company can provide you with a cost effective solution to haulage. What are the costs and benefits to hauling internally or externally? Make sure you’ve crunched those numbers!

Tackling Stress for Forklift Operators

Forklift jobs are by no means easy jobs. Even with safety measures improving and equipment becoming more sophisticated working in a fast pace warehouse environment can be stressful. So what are the major challenges to forklift work, and how can you combat workplace stress?

What’s the temperature? Often forklift drivers are required to work in changing temperatures, whether it’s outside, inside or in freezer environments. This can be both physically and mentally stressful – make sure you’ve put the right safeguards in place so forklift operators don’t feel the effects of changing temperatures too harshly.

Looming deadlines. Forklift operators usually work in fast paced environments with strict deadlines, meaning there’s a temptation to rush and potentially cause accidents. Managing workload and deadlines effectively is vital to avoid deadline stress.

Training needs. Training can sometimes feel like an afterthought or another stress for forklift operators. Keeping your training up to date must be a top priority – Find out more about our partner company, The Forklift Truck Training Centre, here – https://wetrainflt.co.uk/
